1. Overview of the Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship 2026

The Mieroszewski Centre Research Scholarship 2026 supports young scientists who wish to carry out original research in humanities and social sciences related to Central and Eastern Europe. Scholars receive a monthly stipend of 8,000 PLN and gain full access to archives, libraries, institutions, and experts in Poland.

The programme is designed for scholars who demonstrate academic excellence, originality, and a strong commitment to advancing regional studies, history, politics, and contemporary societal challenges.

The programme includes two special events in Warsaw:

  • Inaugural Meeting – networking, expert talks, inspiration
  • Closing Meeting – presentations of research results & future collaboration planning

2. Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be under 40 years old
  • Be a citizen of: EU countries, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, or Azerbaijan
  • NOT be a permanent resident of Poland (exceptions: Ukraine & Belarus)
  • Have an affiliation with an academic, analytical, or expert institution
  • Have a documented research record
  • Doctoral students without a PhD may apply

3. Eligible Research Areas (2026 Edition)

Applicants may conduct research in one of the following fields:

  • The Russian Empire & the legacy of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1772–1917)
  • Civil society, protests & political resistance in Belarus and Russia
  • Historiographical & political disputes in Poland (18th–21st centuries)
  • EU & Euro-Atlantic integration (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia)
  • Countering Russian propaganda in Central and Eastern Europe
  • Poland’s contribution to international law
