Overview
The Bridging Heritage and Hope Pilot Programme 2026 is grounded in the belief that archaeology and cultural heritage can play a vital role in peacebuilding and dialogue. Through this initiative, the European Association of Archaeologists seeks to support young professionals who face barriers to international academic participation due to conflict, displacement, or limited resources.
The programme provides selected scholars with the opportunity to participate in one of the most important global gatherings in archaeology—the EAA Annual Meeting. Participants will contribute to a special roundtable and share research or heritage-related experiences from conflict-affected regions.
The Bridging Heritage and Hope Pilot Programme 2026 promotes:
- Inclusion and representation of archaeologists from conflict zones
- Heritage-based peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue
- Professional development, mentoring, and networking
- Stronger links between European institutions and affected regions
Eligible regions include, but are not limited to: Syria, Palestine, Israel, Ukraine, Russia, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, as well as other areas experiencing armed conflict or post-conflict recovery. The initiative amplifies marginalized voices while strengthening ethical collaboration and regional resilience.
