ERMA Master 2026 is now open for applications for its 26th edition. This one-year interdisciplinary master’s programme focuses on democracy, human rights, social justice, and regional cooperation in South East Europe.

The programme is coordinated by the University of Sarajevo and the University of Bologna. Selected students can earn 60 ECTS and receive a double-degree diploma.

Overview

ERMA Master 2026 is designed for students who want to deepen their knowledge of democracy, human rights, peace, social justice, and regional cooperation. The programme combines academic learning with practical and field research experience.

The curriculum includes core courses such as human rights theory, nationalism and conflict, democratisation and EU integration, UN and European human rights systems, peace and human rights, and research methodologies.

Students can also choose elective courses in children’s rights, environmental rights and global challenges, and migration and human rights, with a strong focus on South East Europe.

The programme is part of the Global Campus of Human Rights, a network of more than 100 universities working to promote human rights and democracy through international cooperation.

ERMA Master 2026 Eligibility

Up to 28 students will be selected across three target groups.

Target Group I – 22 places:
Citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and citizens of Kosovo who hold a passport of a country recognised by Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Target Group II – 3 places:
Citizens of European Union countries and Azerbaijan.

Target Group III – 3 places:
Citizens of other countries as self-funded students.

Applicants must hold a university degree in social sciences or humanities from an accredited university. The previous degree must be earned through studies lasting 4 or 5 years, or a 3+2 structure, with at least 240 ECTS.

Applicants must also prove English language proficiency through accepted tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge C1/C2, or Duolingo.

Funding and Tuition Fees

For Target Group I, the tuition fee is €200.

For Target Group II, the tuition fee is €2,000, paid in two instalments.

For Target Group III, the tuition fee is €2,000, plus €2,700 for Term III lodging in Italy.

All Target Group I and Target Group II students receive a study grant of approximately €4,800 gross, paid in several instalments. They may also receive up to €2,000 in travel and other reimbursements during the academic year.

Lodging and dining costs for one month in Italy are also covered for eligible students.
