1. Overview of the CSSS Journalism Fellowship 2026

The CSSS Journalism Fellowship 2026 is designed for journalists who wish to deepen their understanding of complex-systems science—an interdisciplinary field that explores networks, emergence, nonlinearity, adaptation, and the interconnectedness of natural and human systems.

Each year, SFI selects two accomplished journalists to join its iconic Complex Systems Summer School (CSSS) in Santa Fe. Fellows participate in lectures, computational labs, hands-on workshops, and discussions with leading scientists. Following the program, fellows spend an additional week on SFI’s main campus conducting self-directed research, interviewing researchers, and developing future story concepts.

This fellowship is ideal for journalists covering science, technology, climate, society, public health, environment, or interdisciplinary systems.
