Overview

The EU Canada Young Journalist Fellowship 2026 aims to highlight and support promising young journalists across Canada. Since its launch in 2001, the program has selected three talented candidates each year to participate in an immersive study visit to Brussels.

During the fellowship, selected journalists gain first-hand insight into how the European Union institutions operate, including the European Commission and EU diplomatic missions. Fellows also meet journalists, policymakers, and experts working at the intersection of European and international affairs.

The program includes visits to key EU institutions, discussions with media professionals, and attendance at the European Commission’s daily press briefing. These activities allow fellows to better understand EU policymaking, international diplomacy, and European media dynamics.

Beyond the study tour, fellows will attend a formal awards ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, co-hosted by the Office of the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Canadian Association of Journalists.

Another important benefit of the EU Canada Young Journalist Fellowship 2026 is professional networking. Participants will connect with policymakers, EU officials, journalists, and academics, expanding their understanding of international relations and transatlantic journalism.

The fellowship also strengthens EU-Canada relations by encouraging the next generation of journalists to cover European issues and international cooperation. Fellows are expected to document and share their experience through articles, blogs, or social media during or after the study tour.
