Overview
The OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Program 2026 is the United Nations’ flagship initiative aimed at empowering minority-rights advocates by providing advanced training on international human rights systems. Launched in 2005, it remains OHCHR’s most comprehensive educational program dedicated to minority rights, offering fellows invaluable knowledge of UN structures, mechanisms, treaties, and reporting processes.
The fellowship enables activists to deepen their expertise while building long-term networks with human rights practitioners, UN agencies, NGOs, and other minority advocates worldwide. In addition to Geneva-based training, fellows also participate in a preparatory program in Strasbourg, France, further enhancing their professional capacity to advocate effectively for minority communities.
Participants gain a profound understanding of how UN bodies operate, how minority issues are addressed within international frameworks, and how to use human rights tools to influence policies and protect vulnerable groups. The program prepares fellows to bring back new skills, resources, and strategies to their communities, strengthening grassroots advocacy and institutional resilience.
